This combination stone comprises two different layers: the dark side for coarse sharpening and the light side for fine sharpening. The dark side is used on a blunt knife or to remove small dents from the blade. Here are a few instructions on how you can use and take care of your sharpening stone and knives. Use - Remove the stone from the box
- Wet the surface of the dark side with a few drops of water. You need not soak the stone
- Put the stone back into the lower part of the box and place it on an even anti-slip surface
- Move the knife across the stone in steady movements with the tip touching it first
- Ensure that the stone always stays wet. Do not remove the grinding paste that accumulates while sharpening as it helps sliding the knife across
- Repeat the process with the smooth side of the stone
- Check the result by cutting a sheet of paper
- When the knife has reached the desired degree of sharpness, remove the grinding paste by rinsing the knife under running water. Post rinsing, dry the knife carefully with a towel
- Clean the stone under running water and let it dry completely before you put it back into its box
Care - Do not let the stone drop as it might get damaged
- If the surface of the stone becomes uneven, use fine sandpaper and water to smoothen it
Protecting your knives from premature loss of sharpness - Never use your knives on hard cutting surfaces such as china, metal, marble or granite
- Though knives with plastic handles can be washed in a dishwasher, it is recommended that you clean them by hand for long lasting and durable use. Other appliances in the dishwasher may damage the blades of your knives
- Do not use your knives as screwdrivers or can-openers as that can permanently damage their cutting edge
